I am only testing on day 1 in New York because I recently passed the CA bar exam. What does the 50 question Multiple Choice section consist of? What is the approximate apportionment of subjects?

Honestly its very hard to prepare for the NY Multiple Choice Section. Most people like myself who took and passed the NY bar simply ignore studying for the NYMC and then just take the best guess on the questions. While there are books out there that get into the arcane questions that are covered on the NYMC you are better off doing the essays and the MPT
